OLAGARRO
Project type
Sculpture
Date
2020
Location
Emmanuel Art Gallery
Olagarro, created in 2019 by Denise Zubizarreta, is a striking sculpture made from steel, copper, and aluminum wire, set on a wood base. Measuring 17.5” x 6”, this piece explores the paradox of human connection in a world where we are simultaneously more linked yet more isolated than ever before. The intricately woven wires symbolize the ties that bind us, reminding viewers of the essential human connections that form the foundation of our communities.
Exhibited in 2020 at the Emanuel Art Gallery’s The Future of Now: Contemporary Art in Our Unsustainable World, Olagarro challenges the viewer to consider how political, economic, and environmental disruptions have fractured our collective unity. The spiral and weave of the sculpture stand as metaphors for our interconnectedness, urging us to remember the armature of human support that holds our society together. This piece calls for a reawakening to our shared reality and the importance of fostering strong, sustainable communities for future generations.
