ONE PILL AT A TIME
Project type
Immersive Installation
Date
Spring 2022
Location
Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design
In 2022, Zubizarreta presented an immersive installation titled One Pill at a Time at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. This thought-provoking work delved into the dark intersections of the pharmaceutical industry, exploring the corrupt practices that have shaped the market introduction of drugs. The installation particularly focused on the exploitation of Puerto Rican women in the testing of birth control pills and the aggressive marketing of drugs aimed at women during the 1940s to 1960s.
Through a blend of multimedia elements, One Pill at a Time offered viewers an intimate yet critical look at how systemic abuse and manipulation within the industry have had long-lasting effects on women, health, and bodily autonomy. This piece invited reflection on historical injustices while drawing parallels to contemporary issues in medical ethics and women’s rights.
